Swing Left Statement on Wisconsin’s Supreme Court Election Results

APRIL 1, 2025 (WASHINGTON, DC)— Tonight, in what was the most expensive state judicial race in U.S. history, Wisconsin Supreme Court liberal candidate Judge Susan Crawford defeated Trump and Musk-backed candidate Brad Schimel to maintain the court’s 4-3 liberal majority.

Swing Left was one of the leading national organizations that engaged in the 2025 Wisconsin Supreme Court race. Its national grassroots community of more than 1 million members, including volunteers in and around Wisconsin, raised $238,801 for Judge Crawford and the Wisconsin Democratic Party’s get-out-the-vote efforts, made 396,000+ calls, knocked on 13,300+ doors, and wrote 250,000+ letters to Wisconsin voters, as part of a coalition led by Swing Left’s nonpartisan affiliate Vote Forward. Signaling the high levels of energy among volunteers and donors to fight Trump and Musk, these actions more than doubled (and in some cases, tripled) Swing Left’s previous numbers from the last Wisconsin Supreme Court election in 2023.

Swing Left Executive Director Yasmin Radjy issued the following statement regarding tonight’s election results:

“While Trump and MAGA have Elon’s wallet, we have the power of the grassroots. Last night’s win in Wisconsin sent a clear message that voters are pushing back on the MAGA agenda. Together, we helped prevent an attempt by Trump, Musk, and MAGA megadonors to seize the court in a tight battleground state where ensuring free and fair elections will be critical to the outcomes of the 2026 and 2028 elections.

This is a promising victory, and a crucial first step. Next, to put an even bigger check on Trump, Musk, and MAGA, we must elect more Democratic majorities —starting with our most essential line of offense: winning back the U.S. House.

Momentum and energy are on our side for the fights ahead. Volunteers aren’t just engaged—they’re laser-focused on the essential work of winning elections. Trump’s toxic agenda is increasingly unpopular and Republicans’ hold on power is fragile. Despite what Trump wants us to believe, there is no MAGA mandate.

Grassroots organizing remains our competitive advantage. In race after race, we’ve seen how mobilizing strategically, in the right ways and places, can make all the difference between winning and losing. We did it in Wisconsin and we will continue to do it in key races across the country.

That’s why we’ll build on this win by strategically focusing on the races where grassroots power can have the biggest impact, starting with our work to flip the three seats needed to win the House in the midterms. The path to winning the House is clear, and it is achievable. Democrats lost the House in 2024 by only 7,309 votes – almost a rounding error. But we can’t afford to waste precious time or resources on long-shots. The time to act is now.”

On Thursday, April 3, Swing Left will announce the details of its largest-ever midterm campaign to mobilize grassroots volunteers and donors to help Democrats retake the chamber in 2026 and end Trump and the GOP’s unchecked power.

In another indicator of volunteer and voter energy, tonight Democrats not only overcame Musk’s millions of dollars in Wisconsin, they also significantly reduced Trump’s margin in two Florida congressional districts that Trump won by more than 30 points in November. In FL-1, Democrats are on track to gain approximately 22 points, and in FL-6, 16 points.

Since launching in 2017, Swing Left has become one of the largest drivers of grassroots action to help Democrats win competitive elections up and down the ballot.
